iPhone Repairs and Genuine Parts
Will Tech Direct use genuine Apple replacement screens or small parts on iPhone/iPad repairs?
A question we are often asked. Technically, Apple do not sell any replacement parts to resellers or repair shops. This is the main reason why the market is flooded with both fake apple products and also parts claiming to be OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer)
OEM iPhone screens and small parts
OEM Replacement screens are either taken from working handsets, quite literally removed from a returned device, or the LCD panel and or Digitizer is repaired to give you a refurbished original LCD or OLED panel. There is a huge gray area which other repair outlets don't understand in that you cannot market these parts as original carrying the Apple trademarks so legally, any part which is original or has been remanufactured containing original parts has to be sold as OEM. Unique to Apple products all because reselling of original apple parts is not permitted.
Parts carrying the apple logo, such as the glass in a rear glass only repair for the iPhone 8 and above are all counterfeit. It is for this reason we do not carry out rear glass only repairs. We do replace the whole rear chassis with an OEM part which includes the mid frame, often a battery and other small parts from an original handset.
Aftermarket iPhone Screens and Small Parts
The quality of these screens/parts can be very poor. A rule of thumb would be to keep in mind, the cheaper the repair, the lower the quality of the replacement parts. I know that there are other repairers out there who can fix your phone cheaper, sometimes a lot cheaper. This is where the quality of the repair comes into play so wherever possible we only use Original parts, or in the case of Apple devices, OEM or the highest quality aftermarket screens/parts which are designed to offer as-close-to original performance, whilst maintaining an acceptable price tag. The end result is the highest quality most cost effective repair.
